A bloody cold

Sorry people, but I've caught a cold so I won't be able to update the blog for at least a couple of days. I do have lots of NOTDs in store (one budgetpolish that stayed on my nails for 5 days without any obvious tear so stayed tuned for that!) and off course I'll continue the theme. I think the next one is "my best friend". If you miss me too much you can follow me on twitter since I can update from the sofa. It won't be anything intelligent though but it's something at least.

Day 06 – Your day

My day, uptil now (5:30 PM)- all the times are approximate:
9:00- Woke up by the alarm. Realised that it was almost dark outside still.

9:30- Sat by the computer. Checked out mail, Facebook, twitter and the blog. Found an award from Sublim among the comments which made me happy. Good start of the day.

10:05 Walked to Ylva with the hopes to get a warm cup of coffee since it was snowing outside- a whole lot!

13:15 Got back home again. Felt a need to read some of the litterature from the unicourse.

14:30 Read about Pippi Longstockings and thought about Annika's role as a girl in the books.

15:45 Started to go through my wishlist with nailpolishes and link to different NOTDs.

16:30 Mind numb after all the NOTD search. Went back to reading.

17:00 Realised I'm to tired to read.

17:00 Hungry.... can't focus on either writing or reading anymore....

Day 05 – Your definition of love

I guess my definition of love isn't all that complicated. Although love is a complex thing. There is the love for one's partner, the love for one's family or the love for a hobby or way of life. Love is multifaceted, you discover new aspects of it the more you turn it or ponder about it.
To me, love is off course my boyfriend. We've been together for two years now and even if it sounds totally cheesy he has really shown me what real love is. Boys has always been an issue with me- I've been shy and have had a hard time trusting someone. But D and I have something special going on. Even if we life in different countries it still feels like we're walking next to each other every day. I've never experienced a feeling like that- complete closeness, the feeling of never being alone. Love is when you can feel your partner's warm hand in yours when you're sitting on the cold bus early in the morning. Love is when you try to explain something on msn by drawing a stupid picture and realise that your partner has sketch the exact same picture.

Day 04 – What you ate today

Oh Jeeeesus- what I ate? I must have the worst eating habits in the world even though I've gotten better in the last 5 years. Ok, that might have been a little exaggerated, I'm sure that there are people out there that have worse eating habits than I do. I've just always had troubles with food. The problem is when you say that people always takes that as I'm either bulimic or anorectic. But that't not the case, I've just always had a problem with eating beacuse I don't like the feeling of putting food in my mouth and chew on it. If I think about what I do when I chew I loose my apetite. So it's important for me to eat things I like and that's the other problem- I've always been extremely picky with my food. I don't like spicy food, I would never eat special meats or meat that is undercooked. Just thinking about a steak tartare makes my apetite go out the window. But enough about my strange ideas- what did I eat today? Well, let's make it yesterday since it's only 2:51 pm now and I haven't eaten that much today. I don't think two sandwiches and leftover tuna/rice salad from yesterday qualifies. So here's my list:
Breakfast- 2 cups of coffee (I hardly ever eat breakfast when I'm not going to the University, since my stomach doesn't wake up until about 3 hours after my brain- and my brain wakes up 1 hour after I get up from the bed)
Lunch- Tuna and rice salad; rice, tuna (tinned in water), lettuce, avocado and feta cheese- yummy, even though it should have been tomatoes in it as well.
Dinner- my homemade västerbottencheese pie (a lovely swedish cheese from the north of Sweden, really strong flavour)
Oh, I didn't include all the cups of coffee or the one or two fruits that I had during the day. I'm the biggest coffee-oholic there is. I love coffee- it's the best invention since sliced bread.

NOTD: Eyeko Vintage Polish

Todays NOTD is mint green. Yes, I know- MINT GREEN! It's Eyeko's Vintage Polish, a mint or light jade green creme polish. I got it for free with a order I placed at Eyeko a few months ago. Eyeko is a budget brand, you can get it at the swedish webstore Eleven but then you'll have to pay about double the price for it. Another good thing about Eyeko is that you don't have to pay any postage cost within Europe. Oh and if you place an order there, use my special ambassador code E11884 at the checkout for a free gift! Let's move over to the pictures shall we:

I'm not sure how this works with my skintone to be honest- I think it brings out the redness. However it's a good polish. Especially for a budget polish like this is. It's cost 4 euros which is about 38 SEK. the brush is good but it can drip so be careful. It dries quickly and spreads evenly on the nail. It looks a bit uneven on the photos though but that's just a trick of the camera, it's really even in real life. I had on three coats in the photo. Overall I recommend Eyeko's polishes. I have a few of them and they all are great- I'm definatly buying more. I think my favourite is the taupe coloured "Posh". I give them an extra plus for the cute and original bottles.

So, what book can you recommend to a mint green nail polish? The colour is light and "easy", it's more spring than fall to be honest. If I had a "chic-lit" book in one of my bookshelves I would definatly choose that but since a girly book doesn't get over the threshold at home I'd had to choose something else. However, I found something that I thought would be suiting. It's Arthus Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha. It's the story of Sayuri and I suppose that it's a Cinderella story in a twisted way. Sayuri and her sister were sold as young girls to different okiya (a geisha house) as maids. Life there is hard for Sayuri, she is practically a slave. In time she does get proper geisha training and the reader takes part in the whole rituals of geishas which is fascinating. To call geishas prostitutes is a big misconseption. Yes, they do offer their companionships and sometimes that includes sex but there's still a big difference. I won't start a debate about the whole thing, I would just love to recommend this book.

NOTD: MAC "Seriously Hip"

Now this is truly an archive NOTD. I think I've had this over a year. Look how long my nails were! Anyway, this is the polish from the MAC Collection "Style black" that came out in.... was it in early 2010 or late 2009? This was a limited edition but you might find it on ebay or from private seller. But let's move on to the pictures:

The colour is a golden, mossy green with golden flakes and a pearl shine. The flakes are rather small and irregular, not the bigger flakes like you get in Nfu-Oh's lovely flake polishes. I think it was the regular 3 coats on this picture. I'm not sure what base- and top coat I was using though.
Normally this kind of green isn't my colour and to be totally honest, I've only used this once. I think the colour is beautiful, it's really fall like and the flakes makes it almost glow from within, but green just isn't my thing. I can't get it to suit me somehow. Although I don't think the  colour is my biggest issue with this polish. The flakes makes it almost impossible to remove. It doesn't matter how long you rub your nails with remover, you still get dark flakes on your nails. The formula is ok for a MAC polish- it's sticky but not too thick or gloopy. I can't remember how long I wore it before it chipped though. When it comes to MAC polishes they normal only stay on for a day or two which is an outrage considering how much they cost. But then again I'm the stupid one since I've bought them.

And now for the book tip! I wasn't sure what kind of book you should read to a greenish, fall like polish. Well, I found one- The serpent and the rainbow (1985) by Wade Davis. It's allegedly a non-fictional book but I would say I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to the degree of truth but it's still a good book. It's written by a Wade Davis, an etno-botanist who travels to Haiti to do some research about zombie poison. If you're interested in culture of Haiti and the mythos of zombies, I really recommend this beacuse it's truly interesting. It's also about the political climate in Haiti which was been troublesome to say the least. So it's not the typical Hollywood-zombie-story with moaning, slow walking humanlike creatures roaming the streets. It was filmed in 1988, starring Bill Pullman. But the movie is only loosely based on the book.

Day 03 – Your parents

Instead of writing a long entry about my parents, I will share a little scene that happend just the other day. It was on Sunday (Father's day in Sweden to be exact).
Me, my mum and dad where out on a sunday quizz walk in the freezing rain.
Mum: "Now that looks really good!" Points to the overgrown sidewalk.
Dad: With hesitation: "Oh? For real?"
Mum: Sighs loudly. "Come on. Do you really think so?"
Dad: Messes with the umbrella. "But you said so?"
Mum: "It was a JOKE!"
Me: Laughing myself silly.

The small illustration is quite pointless to any other person. But in my family, irony a joking has always been an everyday thing although, as you can see, irony doesn't always work.

NOTD: Rescue Beauty Lounge "Scrangie"

Now we finally come to a NOTD! Off course its from the archive beacuse the light has been horrible recently, a bad thing about winter. This time we have RBL's beautiful polish "Scrangie". This polish was especially made with one of my favourite nailpolish blogger- Scrangie. Now let's see the pictures:

The colour is a bright purple with green shimmer and microglitter. It's very unique although Zoya's Adina has almost the same concept- purple with a green duochrome. But they aren't dupes, even though I don't have Adina, I can tell by the pictures I've seen. The formula is excellent, like with all other RBL polishes. If you fancy it I can tell you that Nailmail has RBL as this months polish and Scrangie is included in one of the "Edgy" choice. It's truly recommended.

What sort of book can we mention after a beauty like Scrangie? Well, my thoughts are this; since Scrangie is inspired by beetlewings my thoughts straightly went to a longer novell I recently read. I think most people are somewhat familiar with The metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Although that it's a misconception that the main character, Gregor Samsa, was transformed into a beetle. The "thing" he was transformed into is an unknown insect. Kafka didn't want the species of the insect to be specified which is actually a big charm with this long novell. The thing about Kafka is the uncertainty about what is going on. It's the surreal feeling. When Gregor Samsa wakes up and finds that his body now is an insect with multipel legs, his thoughts is not about what has happend but how he will get to work in the state he is. Somehow that highlights the nightmarish effect and it's all typical of Kafka. I recommend it.

The cats

Now when blogger finally lets me include photos again, I might as well show you the gruesome twosome- hahahaha. Brutus is on the left and the other one is Bina- both on my unmade bed.

Day 02 – Your first love

Now this is a difficult subject. Who was my first love? Hmmm..... but it must have been when I was around 7 I think. I've always liked hanging around blokes just as much as girls. Maybe it's beacuse I have an older brother and I'm used to have guys around. But the one that can be considered to be my first love was a bloke that was in the other first grade (or was it when we where in the second grade?). We were both at the same recreation centre after school and I think that's where we found each other. I won't mention his name though beacuse that's not fair.
Unfortunatly we were never boyfriend and girlfriend, but we were good friends. It was one of those sweet and innocent friendships where I felt my heart beat extra whenever we were together. I wasn't jelous when he had girlfriends though beacuse it never affected our friendship. Our friendship lasted until I moved with my family when I was 11. The funny thing is, when I think back, is that his and my friendship was located to that recreation centre. We didn't hang out at home or anything like that. After him I must have had about a billion different loves but it wasn't until I was 17 I got my first actual boyfriend.
